The School Roof - Short Poetry

We scaled onto the school’s steep roof after dusk on warm summer nights

We sipped our first beers, our smokes aglow in the town’s tattling lights

We formed lifelong bonds—giggling, fleeing the party-crashing police

We lost our virginity in that scenic slice of pure teenage peace

One night we climbed

Down together

And we never

Climbed

Back

This is fantastic. The visual diminution of the last five lines is like the time of youth running out.

Thanks, Priscilla! That's what I was going for. I don't do much with poetry, but I like playing around with it from time to time. Appreciate the comment!
